We talked about the games I played and I talked about so many that I do not know if I talked about all of the ones I played, but I will also talk about the ones I played last year as well.
This is the list of games that I played this year:
- Left 4 Dead (XBox 360)
- Resident Evil 5 (XBox 360)
- Rise of Nightmares (XBox 360 Kinect)
- Dead Rising (XBox 360)
- Dead Rising 2 (XBox 360)
- Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone (XBLA)
- Dead Island (XBox 360)
- Metal Slug 3 (Neo Geo MVS)
- Resident Evil 2 (N64)
- Resident Evil 2 (Game.com)
- Plants vs Zombies (PC)
Add to that the games from last year as well:
- Crackdown 2 (XBox 360) [Close enough to zombies that I counted it]
- Star Wars Galaxies (PC) [Zombie StormTroopers. Uh, yes please]
- Zombie Apocalypse (XBLA)
- Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (XBox 360)
- Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned (XBox 360)
- House of the Dead 2 (DC)
- Zombie Revenge (DC)
Now, for my recommendations and games to avoid:
- Left 4 Dead
- Dead Rising
- Dead Rising 2
- Crackdown 2
- Resident Evil 5
- Zombie Apocalypse
- Plants vs Zombies
- Metal Slug 3
- Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
- Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned
- House of the Dead 2
- Zombie Revenge
Take with Caution:
These games are not bad, but you should play with caution and I will explain in a sentence or 2 as to why.
Dead Island: This is overall a really good game. The problem is that it feels too much like it wants to be Borderlands. If you have not played Borderlands, this one is great. If you have played Borderlands, this one will seem too much like it is trying to be Borderlands
Resident Evil 2 (N64): I am impressed that they got the cutscenes in this version. Be careful though, since the controls are not very good on the N64 controller. Playing the game just does not feel right
Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone: This is another really fun game, but it feels like they departed too much from the original concept, which truly felt like a Robotron-esque game, but with zombie killing. This one is more about actually going through levels.
Rise of Nightmares: This one is not bad, but it is extremely physical. To fight a single zombie, you will be punching and kicking to do it. It is very fun to play, but with how physical it is, you would need to be in shape to play more than a small session at a time, and when you are killing zombies, nobody wants to do it in 15 minute intervals.
Ones to avoid:
Resident Evil 2 (Game.com): While it is not bad at all for a Game.com game, it is still a Game.com game. I feel they were overly ambitious with this title and were not able to get the feel of RE2 done in this one.
Games You can’t play anymore:
Star Wars Galaxies. The servers finally shut down last year. It is a shame. Sure, there were not many highlights about the game, but it did have a few fun aspects. The Star Wars zombie book that came out got an expansion on SWG for it. It was pretty fun to take out zombie storm troopers in the game. That and space combat were really the main reasons to play the game, but since the servers are down, you can’t play that anymore.
Additional Tip for one game to buy:
If you buy Left 4 Dead, get the normal version instead of the Game of the Year Edition. The DLC that has been released came out after GOTY edition was released, which means that the 2 new campaigns are not included in GOTY Edition. The other DLC, Survivor Pack, is free to download on XBox 360, which is what was released on the GOTY Edition. So for about $10 less, you will have GOTY Edition, but it will just have the standard case.
